For the purpose of TURNkey’s development and demonstration of the results, eight different TestBeds (TBs) are considered: TB-1: Bucharest, Romania; TB-2: Pyrenees, France; TB-3: Towns of Hveragerði and Húsavík (Iceland); TB-4: City of Patras and Aegio region, Greece; TB-5: Ports of Gioia Tauro, Italy; TB-6: Groningen, Netherlands; TB-7: All earthquake affected areas worldwide (virtual TB), and TB-8: EEW system for aftershocks (mobile TB).
TBs1-6 are confined to specific geographic areas in Europe that are exposed to earthquake hazard but have been selected for TURNkey so that cumulatively they provide coverage over a wide range of spatial extents, levels and types of existing monitoring systems, population densities, and types of vulnerable infrastructure. Complementary to these TBs, TB-7 is a non-geographically-based TB, where earthquake effects worldwide are monitored through users of the LastQuake and Earthquake Network apps. Finally, TB-8, which aims at the EEW of aftershocks for the safety of search-and-rescue (SAR) teams, will constitute a localized and mobile solution, to be deployed to any earthquake-struck area where European Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) personnel is required to operate.
